The short answer
The cheapest places to fly from Birmingham in Blame the Fare’s deal data are short Ryanair hops: Cork from £26 return, Milan Bergamo from £28, and Porto, Paris Beauvais, Rome and Palma from £30, all logged between 19 September and 17 October 2026. Lanzarote, Tenerife and Marrakesh deals ran from £32 to £46. These are snapshots, not bookable quotes.

Where these prices come from
Every fare on this page is a one-adult, economy, return price in pounds, as Blame the Fare’s deal scanner found it. The scanner only logs fares flagged as below the typical price a provider shows for that route, so this is a record of deals, not a full price history. Fares move constantly; none of these is held or guaranteed.
The cheapest places to fly from Birmingham right now
If you live in the West Midlands and want the cheapest places to fly from Birmingham, the short answer is boring in a good way: Ryanair city routes. Between 19 September and 17 October 2026, Blame the Fare’s deal scanner logged 504 deal observations from Birmingham Airport (BHX) across 49 destinations. Twenty of those destinations had a median deal fare of £50 return or less, and every one of the twenty was a direct flight.
The live picture matched the history. In the feed on 17 October 2026 there were 18 Birmingham deals, ranging from £28 (Cork) to £155 (Sharm El-Sheikh), with a median of £41. Twelve of the 18 were under £50 and all 18 were nonstop. On average the provider’s own “typical” price for those routes was about four times higher: the median deal sat 73% below it.
That makes Birmingham a decent airport for cheap short breaks and winter sun, and a weaker one for cheap Greek islands or long-haul. You can see what is live today on the Birmingham departures page.
Birmingham destinations by logged deal fare
The table below is the most useful view of the data. “Deals logged” counts how many times the scanner recorded a qualifying fare on that route (roughly one per day it appeared). “Median lead” is the gap between the day a deal was seen and its departure date. A route with one or two observations is a hint, not a pattern, so the table sticks to routes with at least five.
| Destination | Deals logged | Lowest | Median | Departures seen | Airline(s) | Median lead |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cork | 11 | £26 | £28 | 31 Oct–12 Dec | Ryanair | 49 days |
| Milan Bergamo | 26 | £28 | £30 | 2 Oct–5 Dec | Ryanair | 38 days |
| Porto | 16 | £30 | £30 | 1–29 Nov | Ryanair | 36 days |
| Paris Beauvais | 7 | £30 | £30 | 16 Nov | Ryanair | 40 days |
| Lanzarote | 11 | £32 | £34 | 8–12 Dec | Not recorded | 65 days |
| Faro | 6 | £31 | £35 | 22 Nov–6 Dec | Ryanair | 61 days |
| Rome Fiumicino | 13 | £30 | £35 | 28 Sep–14 Dec | Ryanair | 13 days |
| Palma | 16 | £30 | £37 | 3 Oct–6 Dec | Ryanair | 22 days |
| Tirana | 21 | £37 | £38 | 31 Oct–28 Nov | Ryanair UK | 53 days |
| Lisbon | 15 | £38 | £40 | 2 Nov–7 Dec | Ryanair | 43 days |
| Sofia | 25 | £34 | £40 | 5–29 Nov | Ryanair | 41 days |
| Marrakesh | 12 | £39 | £40 | 15 Nov–3 Jan | easyJet, Ryanair UK | 54 days |
| Gran Canaria | 16 | £36 | £46 | 6 Oct–11 Dec | easyJet, Ryanair | 60 days |
| Jersey | 9 | £54 | £54 | 26 Nov–17 Jan | easyJet | 105 days |
| Corfu | 18 | £56 | £76 | 22 Sep–20 Oct | Jet2, Ryanair | 8 days |
| Tivat | 23 | £84 | £84 | 1–19 Oct | Jet2 | 5 days |
| Madeira | 22 | £106 | £115 | 24 Sep–29 Oct | Jet2 | 4 days |
| Sharm El-Sheikh | 5 | £147 | £155 | 6 Dec–26 Jan | easyJet | 56 days |
| Hurghada | 5 | £166 | £170 | 2 Dec–22 Feb | easyJet | 65 days |
| Cancún | 6 | £310 | £350 | 7–28 Oct | TUI Airways | 14 days |
Two caveats before you plan around any line. First, many of the cheapest deals were short trips: the Lanzarote and Tenerife fares in the 17 October feed were two-night returns, and the median Birmingham trip length across all logged routes was four nights. Second, these are base fares as found. A Ryanair or easyJet fare usually includes only a small under-seat bag, so add cabin and hold bags before comparing destinations.
Sub-£40 city breaks: Milan, Porto, Paris, Rome and Cork
Milan Bergamo was the most consistent cheap route from Birmingham. The scanner logged it 26 times, with deals between £28 and £34 and a median of £30, for departures from early October to early December. Bergamo is a separate city from Milan, so budget for the airport bus or train at the other end.
Porto (£30 median, 16 observations) and Paris Beauvais (£30, seven observations, all for one 16 November departure) were next. Beauvais is a long way from Paris, which is part of why the fare is low. Rome Fiumicino is the better-connected option: 13 deals, £30 to £40, on a route Ryanair added for summer 2026.
Cork was the single cheapest fare in the whole Birmingham set: £26 return, with a £28 median over 11 observations. On 17 October a five-night Cork trip in late November was in the feed at £28, against a provider typical price of £118. Lisbon, Sofia and Tirana all sat around £38 to £40. If you want a weekend rather than a midweek trip, our guide to cheap weekend flights from the UK covers how to keep Friday and Sunday timings workable.
Canaries, Faro and Marrakesh for winter sun
For winter sun, Birmingham does better than many people assume. The Canary Islands showed up repeatedly: Lanzarote at £32 to £36 (11 observations, all for 8–12 December departures), Gran Canaria at £36 to £52 (16 observations) and a single Tenerife deal at £35. Faro had six deals between £31 and £44 for late November and early December.
Marrakesh is the standout for something less obvious. Twelve deals between £39 and £46 were logged on easyJet and Ryanair UK for departures from mid-November to 3 January. In the 17 October feed a four-night trip in early December was £46.
Egypt costs more but is still direct. Sharm El-Sheikh (£147 to £168) and Hurghada (£166 to £171) each had five easyJet deals, for departures from December into February. That is a small sample, so treat it as a rough marker for what a good Red Sea fare from BHX looks like this winter rather than a floor.
Greece, Croatia and the late-season holiday airlines
Greece and Croatia tell a different story. Corfu, Rhodes, Kos, Zakynthos, Chania, Pula, Split, Dubrovnik and Tivat were all logged, mostly on Jet2 and TUI Airways, with medians between £76 and £110. Madeira, also Jet2, had a £115 median across 22 observations.
Almost all of those were last-minute end-of-season fares. On the 17 routes whose median deal was between £50 and £100, the typical deal was seen only about five days before departure, and the Greek and Croatian departure dates stopped in October. These are seats airlines were filling before the summer programme wound down, not fares you could have planned months ahead. Useful if you can leave on a few days’ notice; less useful for a family holiday.
Compare that with the 20 cheap city and winter-sun routes, where the median lead time across routes was about 44 days. Deal observations cannot prove when it is cheapest to book, but they do show that the cheap Ryanair fares from Birmingham appeared well in advance as well as close to departure.
Which airlines carry the cheap BHX fares
Ryanair dominates the cheap end. It was listed on 21 of the 49 Birmingham routes in the history, including every route in the table with a median of £40 or less where the airline was recorded. Ryanair said in March 2026 that it would base a ninth aircraft at Birmingham for summer 2026 and fly 50 routes, adding Agadir, Rome Fiumicino, Marrakesh, Tirana and Warsaw Modlin.
Jet2 appeared on 14 routes and TUI Airways on eight, almost all holiday routes to Greece, Croatia, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Montenegro. On routes served only by Jet2 or TUI in our data, the median of the route medians was £90.50. easyJet, which opened a three-aircraft Birmingham base in March 2024, appeared on seven routes, notably Marrakesh, Gran Canaria, Jersey, Dalaman and the two Egyptian resorts.
Long-haul from Birmingham was thin. The only long-haul nonstop logged was TUI to Cancún (six deals, £310 to £376, October departures). The two connecting deals in the whole set were Los Angeles on Aer Lingus at £261 and Jeddah on Pegasus at £343, one observation each. For most transatlantic deals, a London or Manchester departure is still the realistic route.
Birmingham vs Manchester, Bristol and East Midlands
Comparing airports is only honest on routes they share, over the same period. The table puts Birmingham beside Manchester and Bristol on selected destinations logged from all three, or where one airport had no deals at all.
| Destination | Birmingham | Manchester | Bristol |
|---|---|---|---|
| Milan Bergamo | £30 (26) | – | £38 (20) |
| Rome Fiumicino | £35 (13) | – | £66 (6) |
| Lisbon | £40 (15) | £39 (4) | £54 (9) |
| Sofia | £40 (25) | £68 (26) | £37 (5) |
| Palma | £37 (16) | £46 (2) | £37 (11) |
| Lanzarote | £34 (11) | £31 (5) | £30 (4) |
| Gran Canaria | £46 (16) | £32 (8) | £36 (14) |
| Corfu | £76 (18) | £56 (26) | £88 (26) |
| Paphos | £91 (8) | £50 (3) | £66 (20) |
| Madeira | £115 (22) | £50 (12) | £47 (17) |
| Hurghada | £170 (5) | £152 (4) | £164 (21) |
The pattern is clear enough: Birmingham was competitive or cheapest on Italian and Portuguese city routes, and dearer for Madeira, Cyprus and the Canaries. Across all routes, 20 Birmingham destinations had at least one deal at £40 or under, against 18 for Manchester and 11 for Bristol. In the 17 October feed the median deal was £41 from Birmingham, £51.50 from Manchester and £65.50 from Bristol.
The matching guide to the cheapest places to fly from Manchester has the Manchester route table and explains where Liverpool can also be worth adding.
Manchester is the bigger airport (32.06 million passengers in 2025 by CAA figures, against 13.66 million at Birmingham and 10.83 million at Bristol), so it is worth adding for Madeira or Cyprus if the train fare north is cheap. Blame the Fare does not scan East Midlands Airport, so there are no EMA fares to compare here. It handled 3.96 million passengers in 2025, and anyone in the north or east of the region should price it separately. Our guide to searching several airports at once shows a quick way to do that.
Getting to BHX: Birmingham International and the Air-Rail Link
Birmingham Airport shares a site with Birmingham International railway station. West Midlands Railway says the station connects to the terminal by the free Air-Rail Link people mover, which takes about two minutes and runs daily from 03:30 to 00:30. If you need help boarding it, there is an intercom to alert airport staff.
National Rail lists the station as step-free to all platforms, managed by Avanti West Coast. For a 06:00 departure, the 03:30 start is fine; if your train lands after 00:30 for a very early flight, check your options with the airport before relying on the link.
The rail connection matters for the maths. A £30 Milan fare is not cheap if it needs a taxi or a week of airport parking. Price the journey to the terminal alongside the flight, especially when you are weighing BHX against a longer run to Manchester or Bristol.
What this Birmingham data can and cannot tell you
The scanner logs fares that are flagged below a typical price, and the public feed shows a limited set of deals per airport at a time (18 Birmingham deals on 17 October). A destination missing from these tables may still have cheap fares; it just did not surface as one of the strongest deals during these four weeks.
For the same reason, the lead times above describe when deals were seen, not when prices were lowest. The data covers one month in autumn, so summer 2027 fares will look different. Several routes have fewer than ten observations, and the table says so. If you want to understand why fares on one route move around, see our explainer on why flight prices change.
How to catch a cheap fare from Birmingham
- Start with the destination, not the date. Open the BHX departures page or a map search and shortlist places under your price ceiling.
- Check trip length. Many of the cheapest BHX fares were two- to five-night returns; stretch the dates and see what happens to the price.
- Add bags and transport. Put the cabin bag, hold bag and train or parking cost on the same line as the fare.
- Price one alternative airport. Manchester for Madeira or Cyprus, Bristol for the Canaries if you are south-west of Birmingham.
- Set a ceiling and a deadline. Decide the most you will pay and the date you will book by, then let an alert do the checking.
Our broader guide to finding the cheapest flights from your airport goes deeper on open-destination search. If a flight from Birmingham is then delayed by three hours or more, read UK flight delay compensation before accepting a voucher.
Blame the Fare previews a few current deals publicly on the deal feed. The Departures Club includes the full feed and exact-trip Watches. In U.S. dollars, it costs $9 per month or $79 per year; where available, the founding annual price is $49 for the first year, then renews at $79 per year. Yes, for short-haul. The deal scanner logged Lanzarote at £32 to £36 for December departures, Gran Canaria from £36, Faro from £31 and Marrakesh from £39 return, all nonstop, between 19 September and 17 October 2026. Egypt costs more: Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada deals were £147 to £171 on easyJet, from five observations each, so treat those as rough markers.
Which airlines have the cheapest flights from Birmingham?
Ryanair carried almost all of the cheapest Birmingham deals and appeared on 21 of the 49 routes logged. Ryanair said it based a ninth aircraft at Birmingham for summer 2026 with 50 routes. Jet2 and TUI Airways mainly showed up on holiday routes with higher medians, while easyJet appeared on Marrakesh, Gran Canaria, Jersey and Egypt.
Is it cheaper to fly from Birmingham or Manchester?
It depends on the route. Between 19 September and 17 October 2026, Birmingham was cheaper for Sofia and had Milan and Rome deals that Manchester did not, while Manchester was cheaper for Madeira, Paphos, Corfu and Gran Canaria. In the 17 October feed the median deal was £41 from Birmingham and £51.50 from Manchester. Compare the same destination and dates, including travel to the airport.
Is Bristol cheaper than Birmingham for flights?
Not as a rule. In Blame the Fare's data, Bristol was cheaper for Madeira, Paphos and the Canaries, but dearer for Rome, Lisbon and Milan. Twenty Birmingham destinations had a deal at £40 or less in the four weeks to 17 October 2026, against 11 from Bristol. If you live between the two, price both for your exact trip.
Does Blame the Fare show East Midlands Airport deals?
No. Blame the Fare's deal scanner does not currently cover East Midlands Airport, so this guide has no EMA fares to compare. The CAA recorded 3.96 million passengers at East Midlands in 2025, against 13.66 million at Birmingham. If East Midlands is closer to you, search it separately on a comparison site using the same dates and bags as your Birmingham search.
How do you get from Birmingham International station to the airport?
Use the Air-Rail Link, a free people mover between Birmingham International railway station and the terminal. West Midlands Railway says the trip takes about two minutes and runs daily from 03:30 to 00:30, with an intercom for passengers who need assistance. National Rail lists the station as having step-free access to all platforms, which helps with heavy luggage.
How far ahead were cheap Birmingham fares seen?
On the 20 Birmingham routes with a median deal of £50 or less, the typical deal was seen about 44 days before departure. On the 17 routes with medians between £50 and £100, mostly Greece and Croatia, it was about five days. Because these are deal observations rather than full price histories, they cannot prove the cheapest time to book.
Are the prices in this guide bookable?
Not necessarily. Every price is a fare Blame the Fare's deal scanner found at a moment between 19 September and 17 October 2026, for one adult in economy, in pounds. Airlines change fares constantly, and The Departures Club does not sell tickets or hold seats. Use the figures as a guide to what a good fare looks like, then check the airline.
