Google Flights Alternatives: 5 Tools for Different Jobs
The right alternative depends on what Google Flights is not doing for you: open-ended discovery, a booking forecast, a curated deal feed or repeated checks on one trip.

The short answer
The best Google Flights alternative depends on the missing job. Use Skyscanner for open destinations, KAYAK for a seven-day forecast, Hopper for an app-led watch-and-book flow, Going for curated U.S. deals, or Blame the Fare for a public deal preview plus member exact-trip Watches. None is proven cheapest for every itinerary, so compare the same fare at the final seller.

Choose an alternative by the job it needs to do
Flight-search alternative
A tool that replaces one part of the Google Flights workflow. It may search another provider set, browse open destinations, forecast a fare, send curated deals or monitor a trip. It does not have to be a like-for-like search engine to be useful.
Start by naming the limitation you are trying to solve. If the destination is unknown, you need discovery. If the route and dates are fixed, you need comparison or monitoring. If you want ideas without searching, you need a curated feed. Treating those as the same product produces a misleading comparison.
Google Flights remains a useful baseline. Google says it works with more than 300 airlines, online travel agencies and aggregators, while also noting that results may not reflect every available offer. An alternative is therefore a cross-check, not proof that Google is incomplete on every route. See our broader guide to the best flight search sites for the difference between search engines, sellers and alert services.
Google Flights alternatives at a glance
| Alternative | Best starting job | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Skyscanner | Open destination or flexible month | Flexible-view prices are recent estimates |
| KAYAK | Book-now-or-wait guidance | Seven-day forecasts are predictions, not guarantees |
| Hopper | Mobile prediction, watch and booking flow | App-led workflow rather than a direct copy of Google Flights |
| Going | Curated deals from U.S. airports | A destination feed, not an exhaustive itinerary search |
| Blame the Fare | Public five-deal preview plus member monitoring | The full feed and Watches require membership |
Do not compare the first displayed number alone. Match the origin and arrival airports, dates, passengers, cabin, fare family, baggage and connection type. A result that looks cheaper can describe a different product, a self-transfer or a seller with different support terms.
Skyscanner for an open destination or month
Skyscanner is the most direct alternative here for a traveller who knows the departure airport but not the destination. Everywhere turns that origin into a list of possible places, while month, cheapest-month and whole-year views help narrow the timing. This changes the question from “What does this route cost?” to “Where can I go from here?”
The trade-off is freshness. Skyscanner says its month and Everywhere prices are estimates based on the cheapest prices users found in the previous eight days. Use those views for a shortlist, then select exact dates and load current results. Its free email Price Alerts are more precise: a signed-in user searches a route and specific date, then asks to be notified when the price changes.
Our Google Flights vs Skyscanner comparison goes deeper on using both tools without treating an estimated flexible price as a bookable quote.
KAYAK for a seven-day price forecast
KAYAK is useful when the destination and dates are known but the timing of the purchase is not. Its current Price Forecast analyses searches to estimate whether the price for a destination and date pair is likely to rise or fall over the next seven days. It shows a confidence level and can return a buy-now or wait recommendation.
KAYAK also states the necessary caveat: a prediction based on past history can never be perfect or guaranteed. A strong-looking signal does not override a visa deadline, school holiday, limited seat need or personal maximum fare. KAYAK accounts can create Price Alerts from flight results and manage them on the web or in the app.
For another metasearch comparison, our Skyscanner vs KAYAK guide separates flexible discovery from forecast-led timing.
Hopper for an app-led watch and booking flow
Hopper is the app-led option in this list. Its help centre describes predictions that power buy-now-or-wait notifications, while Price Watch follows a destination and preferred dates. The app also supports flight, hotel and car-rental booking. That can suit someone who wants alerts and checkout in one mobile experience rather than a desktop metasearch tab.
Compare the workflow, not an unsupported accuracy contest. Hopper and KAYAK publish predictions in different interfaces and neither can hold an ordinary fare merely because it advised waiting. Before purchase, cross-check the exact flights and inspect which business will issue the ticket, handle payment and manage any later change.
Going for curated U.S. deal discovery
Going is not a Google Flights clone. It starts with deals selected for members rather than one itinerary entered by a user. Its current U.S. plans are Limited at $0, Premium at $49 per year and Elite at $199 per year. Premium includes domestic and international economy deals plus custom destination alerts; Elite adds premium economy, business and first class deals.
This model suits a flexible U.S. traveller who wants places suggested. It is a poor substitute for an exact search when attendance dates, airport and destination cannot move. Compare the wider category in our flight deal alert service guide, which also covers airport coverage, free tiers and refund terms.
An alternative can show a different slice of the market
Different results do not automatically mean one service is better. Search tools can have different airline, agency and regional relationships. They can also rank results differently or show another currency, fare family, baggage assumption or self-transfer. The useful question is whether the alternative surfaced an itinerary you can buy on acceptable terms.
| Dimension | What to match |
|---|---|
| Itinerary | Flight numbers, airports, dates, arrival day and stops |
| Fare | Cabin, fare family, carry-on, checked bags and seats |
| Travellers | All adults, children and infants in the same search |
| Checkout | Currency, mandatory charges, payment fees and seller |
| Risk | Change terms, refund terms and self-transfer protection |
The final seller still controls the ticket
A search interface and a ticket seller are often different companies. Google Flights usually hands the traveller to an airline or online travel agency; Skyscanner and KAYAK also compare providers and redirect users. Hopper can participate more directly in the booking flow. In every case, identify the merchant shown at checkout before paying.
Save the seller name, confirmation code and ticket number. If a flight changes, the company controlling the ticket matters more than the site where the comparison began. Open the airline’s own checkout as a reference even when an agency appears cheaper, then compare support and fare restrictions as well as the total.
Blame the Fare for a deal feed and exact-trip Watches
Blame the Fare addresses a narrower gap after the route and dates are known. Anyone can preview up to five current deals, while members unlock the full daily feed and can create an exact-trip Watch with one origin, destination, outbound date, return date and maximum return fare. Membership includes up to 50 active Watches checked hourly.
The Departures Club costs $9 USD per month or $79 USD per year. Where available, the founding annual offer is $49 USD for the first year and renews at $79 USD per year. Eligible new annual members receive a 7-day trial with a card required. Review current membership terms before joining.
A Watch is monitoring, not booking. A match does not reserve the fare, guarantee a saving or replace checkout verification. If a free Google, Skyscanner or KAYAK alert already covers the trip adequately, a paid Watch may not add enough value.
A practical workflow using more than one tool
- Name the open question. Decide whether you need a destination, flexible dates, a timing signal or monitoring.
- Use the specialised tool. Explore with Skyscanner, forecast with KAYAK or browse a curated feed when appropriate.
- Rebuild one exact itinerary. Match passengers, bags, cabin, airports and connection type.
- Cross-check the airline and another engine. Find the reason for any difference before treating it as a saving.
- Set a decision deadline. Track only while waiting remains practical, then verify the current seller total and book deliberately.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about this topic.
What is the best alternative to Google Flights?
There is no single best replacement. Use Skyscanner when the destination or month is open, KAYAK when a seven-day forecast would help, Hopper for an app-led watch-and-book flow, and a curated service such as Going when you want destinations sent to you. For a fixed trip, compare at least two tools and the airline's own checkout.
Is Skyscanner better than Google Flights?
Skyscanner is often quicker for open-destination discovery because Everywhere starts with your departure airport and shows possible destinations. Google Flights is usually clearer for a known route, nearby dates and its Any dates tracking option. Neither is guaranteed to show every airline or the lowest final total, so rerun the exact itinerary before paying.
Does KAYAK predict whether flight prices will rise?
Yes. KAYAK says its Price Forecast estimates whether a fare for the selected destination and dates is likely to rise or fall over the next seven days. It also displays the confidence of the analysis. KAYAK explicitly says historical predictions cannot be perfect or guaranteed, so treat the recommendation as one input rather than a promise.
Can I track flights for free without Google Flights?
Yes. Skyscanner lets signed-in users create email alerts for a chosen route and specific date, while KAYAK accounts can create Price Alerts from search results. Hopper also promotes trip watching in its app. Each workflow tracks a different object, so confirm whether the alert follows dates, a route or a selected flight before relying on it.
Which alternative is best when I do not know the destination?
Skyscanner Everywhere is the clearest starting point among these alternatives. It produces a destination list from your origin and can work with a month or cheapest-month search. The prices in its flexible views are estimates based on recent searches, so use them to shortlist places, then open exact dates and verify the current fare with the seller.
Is Going a search engine like Google Flights?
No. Going is a curated deal membership aimed at U.S. departure airports. Instead of waiting for you to enter one itinerary, it finds deals and sends relevant examples by membership tier. That makes it useful for flexible travellers seeking ideas, but it does not replace an exact-date comparison when you already know where and when you need to fly.
Does Google Flights show every airline and booking option?
No. Google says Flights compares offers from more than 300 travel partners, including airlines, online travel agencies and aggregators, but warns that results may not reflect every available offer. An alternative can therefore reveal another provider or routing, but you still need to compare identical fares and inspect the final seller before paying.
Are flexible-date prices on Skyscanner live?
Not necessarily. Skyscanner says the prices shown in its month and Everywhere views are estimates based on the cheapest prices users found in the previous eight days. They are useful directional signals, not held quotes. Choose the exact dates and continue to current search results before using a displayed figure in a budget or booking decision.
Should I use Hopper or KAYAK for price predictions?
Choose based on workflow rather than an unsupported accuracy comparison. KAYAK publishes a seven-day forecast, confidence level and explicit warning that predictions are not guaranteed. Hopper presents price prediction and trip watching inside its app-led booking experience. Check the same itinerary in another tool and use your own booking deadline, because neither prediction reserves a fare.
When is an exact-trip Watch useful?
An exact-trip Watch is useful after the destination, origin, outbound date, return date and acceptable return fare are known. It is less useful while you are still choosing a country or month. Blame the Fare checks member Watches hourly, but any match still needs verification with the airline or booking provider and does not reserve the price.
