The short answer
For a specific trip, start with a free Google Flights, Skyscanner or KAYAK alert using the exact origin, destination and travel dates. Confirm what the saved alert retained, then set your own all-in price and booking deadline. Use a paid Watch only if repeated exact-trip checks and one account are worth the membership to you.

A price alert is not a reservation
An email or app notification tells you that a provider observed a price change. It does not hold a seat, preserve a fare or guarantee that the same total will appear at checkout. Reopen the exact trip and verify passengers, cabin, bags, stops and seller before paying.
Exact-date flight alerts at a glance
| Option | What it can track | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Google Flights | Searched dates, one route with Any dates, or a selected flight | A significant change can trigger email; it does not reserve the fare |
| Skyscanner | A route and specific date after sign-in | Its standard alert is not an open-date or open-destination feed |
| KAYAK | A flight search or a specific result saved to an account | The separate seven-day forecast is a prediction, not a guarantee |
| Blame the Fare Watch | One origin, destination, outbound date, return date and maximum return fare | Membership required; matching tickets are bought elsewhere |
What an exact-date alert should remember
Exact-date flight price alert
A saved search for a trip whose origin, destination and travel dates are already chosen. It is different from an alert that keeps the dates flexible or a newsletter that chooses destinations for you.
Record the whole trip before choosing a tracker: usable airports, outbound and return dates, passenger count, cabin, maximum stops, baggage and latest acceptable arrival. If an alert silently changes one of those details, it may be showing a different trip rather than a lower price for the one you want.
If the timing can move, use our separate guide to flight price alerts without fixed dates. That page covers one route with flexible timing and open-destination discovery. This guide stays with a fixed date pair.
Google Flights tracks dates or one flight
Google Travel Help says you can track prices for searched dates, switch one route to Any dates, or choose flights and track that selected itinerary. Google emails when a tracked route or flight changes significantly. It may also warn that prices for a tracked route are likely to go up, or that a tracked flight's current fare expires soon.
For a fixed trip, leave the exact searched dates in place. A selected flight alert is narrower, but it can miss a useful alternative flight on the same route. Save the route-level search unless one flight number is the only acceptable option, and inspect the alert account after setup.
Skyscanner starts with a route and date
Skyscanner documents a clear fixed-date workflow: sign in, search a route and specific date, then select Track prices or Get Price Alerts. Its mobile website can also save a flight with the heart icon. Skyscanner then emails when prices change.
That workflow is distinct from Skyscanner Everywhere and month views. Those flexible tools help choose a place or period; the standard Price Alert begins after you have entered a route and date. If you used a flexible view first, rerun the exact dates before creating the alert. Our Google Flights vs Skyscanner comparison covers the wider differences between the two search tools.
KAYAK combines alerts with a short forecast
KAYAK tells signed-in users to turn on Track prices from the flight results page, or save a specific result with the suitcase or heart icon. Alerts can be managed in the account or app. Check the saved details so you know whether you followed the wider search or one offer.
KAYAK's Price Forecast is a separate timing aid. It estimates whether a fare for a destination and dates is likely to rise or fall over the next seven days and shows a confidence level. KAYAK says predictions based on past history cannot be guaranteed, so keep your own booking deadline.
Where an exact-trip Watch fits
Blame the Fare members can create an exact-trip Watch with one origin, destination, outbound date, return date and maximum return fare. Watches are checked hourly while membership is active. A match prompts you to verify and book with the airline or travel provider; Blame the Fare does not sell or hold the ticket.
The founding annual membership is $49 USD for the first year and renews at $79 USD per year. Eligible new annual members receive a 7-day trial with a card required. Compare that paid workflow with free alerts first, especially if you are tracking only one trip.
Who exact-date alerts are for
- Use a route alert when several flights on the same dates would work.
- Use a selected-flight alert when the schedule or flight number cannot change.
- Use an exact-trip Watch when a maximum return fare and hourly repeated checks are useful enough to justify membership.
- Use a flexible-date tool instead when either travel date can genuinely move.
Limitations to plan around
- Coverage differs. A search service may not show every airline or offer, so compare the airline's own site before buying.
- Prices can move after the alert. Inventory may change between observation, email delivery and checkout.
- The headline may omit trip costs. Add bags, seats, payment fees and ground transport before judging a threshold.
- Predictions can be wrong. A forecast should not overrule a firm booking deadline or an acceptable all-in price.
How we compared the alert options
We reviewed the official Google Travel Help, Skyscanner Help and KAYAK Help pages linked in the source list on 19 October 2026. We compared the information each service says it saves, how a user creates the alert and the limits it publishes. We did not benchmark fares or repeat provider savings claims.
Blame the Fare's Watch fields, check frequency, price and trial terms come from the current product configuration in this site. For broader search coverage before choosing a trip, see our comparison of the best flight search sites.
A practical exact-date alert workflow
- Write down the fixed trip. Include airports, dates, passengers, cabin, bags, stops and arrival limits.
- Run the exact search. Confirm that every result uses the same itinerary and currency.
- Create one free route alert. Open the account screen and verify what was saved.
- Set a complete-price target. Include extras you will actually buy and choose a booking deadline.
- Verify every match. Compare the current airline and seller totals before paying, then switch off stale alerts.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about this topic.
How do I set a flight price alert for specific dates?
Search the exact origin, destination, outbound date and return date in Google Flights, Skyscanner or KAYAK, sign in, and enable the site's tracking control. Then open your saved alerts and confirm the route, dates, cabin and passenger details. Set your own all-in price target and booking deadline because an alert does not reserve the fare.
Which flight tracker is best for exact dates?
There is no proven best tracker for every itinerary. Google Flights can follow searched dates or a selected flight, Skyscanner documents route-and-specific-date alerts, and KAYAK can track a search or saved result. Start with the free interface you already use, verify what it retained, and compare the airline's current total when an alert arrives.
Can Google Flights track one exact flight?
Yes. Google's official instructions say you can choose flights and then turn on Track prices for the selected itinerary. You can also track the wider route for the searched dates. Choose the selected-flight option only when that schedule is essential; a route alert can reveal another usable flight on the same date pair.
Does Skyscanner track a route on specific dates?
Yes. Skyscanner says a signed-in user can search a route and specific date, then select Track prices or Get Price Alerts. Its mobile website can also save a flight with the heart icon. This is different from Everywhere and month discovery, so rerun exact dates before creating the persistent alert.
What is the difference between a KAYAK alert and Price Forecast?
A KAYAK Price Alert follows a search or saved result and can notify you about changes. Price Forecast estimates whether a fare for chosen dates and destination is likely to rise or fall during the next seven days. KAYAK shows a confidence level and says historical predictions cannot be guaranteed, so keep a booking deadline.
Should I track a route or a specific flight?
Track the route when several departure times, airlines or connections would work, because a broader alert can surface alternatives on the same dates. Track one selected flight when its schedule or flight number is essential. In either case, confirm the exact saved details and compare the complete current itinerary when the notification arrives.
How often does Blame the Fare check a Watch?
Blame the Fare checks active member Watches hourly. Each Watch contains one origin, destination, outbound date, return date and maximum return fare. A match is an invitation to verify the current itinerary with the airline or booking provider, not a held seat or guaranteed price. Tickets are purchased separately from Blame the Fare.
How much does a Blame the Fare Watch cost?
Watches are included with Departures Club membership. The founding offer, where available, is $49 USD for the first year and renews at $79 USD per year. Eligible new annual members receive a 7-day trial with a card required. Compare that paid workflow with free route alerts before joining, especially for only one trip.
What price should I use for an exact-date alert?
Use the highest complete price you would happily pay, not a bare headline fare. Include every traveller, the required cabin, checked and cabin bags, seats, payment charges and any extra ground transport. Also set a latest booking date. A lower alert that changes the airports, schedule or baggage is not the same trip.
What should I do when a flight price alert arrives?
Open a fresh search immediately and match the route, dates, passengers, cabin, flight numbers, stops and baggage. Compare the same itinerary on the airline's site and review the final seller, currency, fees and change rules before paying. If the fare no longer appears, keep the alert active only until your planned booking deadline.
